Hey there.

I creatively play with my food with my nine-year-old daughter in Louisville, KY. I hope you find some inspiration and fill your belly.

Matcha Powder Smoothie Bowl

Another new discovery! Last week I found Butterfly Pea Powder and made a blue smoothie bowl. This week I’m doing a spin-off with matcha green tea powder. Food is so much better when it’s full of your favorite colors—or just beautiful, that works too!

Is Matcha Powder naturally sweet?

Well, like all natural things, it just depends. There’s a couple vibrant varieties to choose from…but Ujido’s Sweet Matcha Powder is! It’s been sweetened with Monk fruit.

  • Tune-emon Takizo’s family farm in Uji Japan has been growing matcha for 180 years.

  • The highest culinary grade is used — first and second harvest O(≧▽≦)O

  • Monk fruit is a super sweet fruit grown in southern China that has zero calories from sugar

  • Easy ordering on Amazon!

What is Matcha? Matcha is a green tea grown in the shade and then ground into an ultra-fine powder. It’s super concentrated, contains caffeine—but it’s different from caffeine from coffee or energy drinks.

How much caffeine is in Matcha?

Matcha is alkaline and your body metabolizes it slower. Which is great if you don’t like the sudden caffeine rush you get from coffee and energy drinks. Matcha doesn’t give you jitters since it gradually enters your system. Also, there is no de-caf version.

On the flippity flip, coffee is naturally acidic, which is why many people prefer to add creamer to it to take away the bitterness and prevent an upset stomach. All acids taste bitter and disrupt the stomach lining, in varying amounts. So if anyone asks you, “Why drink tea instead of coffee?” you have your answer.

Side note

Traditionally in Japan, matcha tea is dissolved in the water instead of steeped since it’s a fine powder. By doing this, the highest concentration of anti-oxidants in the tea is retained (:

By growing the plant in the shade, it naturally starts to produce more chlorophyll. Matcha has a vivid jade green color due to being grown this way.

Enjoy 。◕ ‿ ◕。

Let me know what else makes your mouth water, I’m always looking for new ideas (:
